New Recent Acute Pain
The two kinds
Recent acute pain is a strong nasty unpleasant sensation that came on within the past 6 weeks. Either it’s a first time you’ve had pain in this part of your body or a recurrence of an old familiar problem. You may remember having had an injury, fall, trip, accident but if it’s a recurring problem it may seem your pain has come on for no apparent reason. The intensity of sharp high level recent pain can feel the same with a new trauma or a recurring problem.
What do I do?
A small percentage of new recent acute pain is caused by pathology that only medical specialist referred investigations & assessment, can diagnose. Sometimes blood tests, scans or other investigations will need to be arranged to help the process. Early diagnosis of potentially life shortening problems is very important. Correct treatment can be started quickly and is likely to be more effective in the early stages of illness progression. Equally trauma to bones & tissues caused by force, falls, accidents, sport injury, road accident or over use, may require a investigations, such as scans to accurately show the degree of damage.
